If you ever find yourself stuck at home doing the mundane tasks of life, and wishing you were out on a rooftop restaurant devouring something elegant.. Don’t worry, I’ve gotchuu~
I compiled a list of the best foodie shows on Netflix that will excite your need for travel and food. Play them in the background while studying, or binge-watch them for hours on end – I won’t judge you
I actually dislike watching TV, but whenever I put these shows on, I can’t stop after just one episode. And I hope you won’t either! So without further ado, five Netflix shows to get your foodie wanderlust going:
1. Chef's Table
Do you ever wonder if anybody else thinks about food and is as passionate about food the way you are? Well these chefs are.
Chef’s Table is a docuseries that goes into the details about the mindset and upbringing of successful chefs from around the world. Each chef shares their inspirational stories about the variety of hardships that they had to overcome to bring their restaurant international recognition – from war to cancer, family death, and more.
On the outside, it’s easy to admire their prestige, but you can’t truly appreciate their talents until you dig a little bit deeper into these chefs’ lives.
The variety of cultures and ethnicities of each chef are what makes this series especially unique, awakening the inner travel bug as well. With 6 Volumes, I can watch Chef’s Table a million times, and I will still be awestruck every time.
2. Streetfood Asia
This is another shorter docuseries that focuses more on underdog chefs found in the street food scene of Asia.
Colorful, sensational, and intriguing. Street Food Asia explores how each chef transformed their cultural cuisines, while staying true to tradition, to become highly renowned in their countries. However, nothing worth having comes easy, and these chefs worked tirelessly to overcome the struggles of being on the streets. Their efforts paid off, as they’ve transformed the world around them as well.
You’ll without a doubt find yourself craving dishes from Street Food Asia that you’ve never even had before.
3. The Final Table:
A Global Cooking Competition
A global competition, indeed. This show puts six pairs of esteemed chefs up against each other to cook several countries’ cuisines and exotic ingredients. To make each dish their own, the competitors often add a touch from their own cultural cuisines, and it is truly masterful to see the mashup.
The judges who are even more successful and groundbreaking chefs of the culinary world, provide insightful feedback and later decide the sole chef who will sit alongside with them at “The Final Table.”
Just being in the presence of other such chefs is purely humbling for the competitors. It really puts into perspective the amount of influence and respect that flows through the culinary world.
4. The Chef Show
This series is the most lax and fun food series out of my recommendations. After recording their movie “Chef,” friends Roy Choi and Jon Favreau decided they needed to continue their food journey together by learning about different cuisines around the US.
The duo are charming and hospitable, as they share their joy of cooking and passion for food with chefs and friends alike.
I personally have never wanted my own food truck so badly until I watched The Chef Show.
5. The Chef's Line
If you enjoy chefs screaming at each other and competing for power, this is not the show for you. Instead, The Chef’s Line is a friendly competition between home cooks and award-winning chefs cooking their cultural dishes.
The creativity that these home cooks have is unreal. It makes me want to step my game up. At the same time, the professional chefs are inspiring and great teachers.
